Me,Myself et Moi

My photo
Buenos dias world
As I am new to this I thought I would share a few little facts about myself..that is if you're interested

1. Im a half mexican, half turkish (Mexish) born and bred english girl so techincally I am a mongrel.

2. Travelling is an addiction of mine. I find it hard to stay in one place for a long time as I think that this world of ours was made for us to explore.

3. My obsession with food is a little extreme. I used to be one of those girls at school who would ask 'Are you going to finish that?' I love pretty much everthing apart from brussel sprouts and zucchini. I would ban them if I had the power.

4. I could not talk english until I was 6 so my nursery days consisted of Janel bitting the kids to communicate with them. But do not worry. My cannibal days are over...I think.

Ring a Ring o' Roses

J'adore rings. That is an obvious statement given to my little collection that I have accumulated along the years. Most of them are from abroad which I have adopted and taken back to England. Those specific rings l'étranger', are  some of my most precious possessions as they bring back wonderful memories of my trips to certain countries. I may have lost a few items along my travels but the memories are something that no one can ever take away from me.
Anyway, at the moment I am very fond of animal feature rings which I find that accessorize an outfit well. They are reasonably priced and easy to find in the high street stores, as well as online.

Live,Love,Laugh

" The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page " – St. Augustine

There are 196 countries and 7 continents in the world for us to explore and become part of. As some of you may know, I have a major thirst for travelling and I always seem to runaway from this little island of ours. Flying off to an unknown destination is something that has always made me happy. I guess that is why I was given the name Dora the Explorer...apart from being a short half Mexican just like the little miss herself... (but no mushroom haircut I'm afraid)

But at the end of the day, I only have to thank one person for making all the adventurous trips of my life become possible...my little madre. Leaving Mexico at the age of 21, she jet-setted of to San Francisco, Hawaii, Japan and through China from north to south. During those years, travelling to China was unheard of especially at this age, as it was a country that had just opened its doors to the world due to communism. However my mother's exact sentence describing her adventure was "un viaje increiblemente interesante e inolvidable" (an incredibly interesting and unforgettable trip). Two years later, the crazy cat decided to place the nachos and tequila to one side and set of once again to Japan, but this time not only to improve her Japanese but to turn into  Hello Kitty lover herself and stay there for good.

However not long after, off she went again and this time came to Europe, specifically to England planning only to stay for 3 months before returning to Japan. But this never happened. Destiny sometimes play funny games in our lives and 3 months became 30 years. Meeting a Turkish man in a green card line office in Holborn, who could hardly speak English himself, is not really a fairytale Cinderella story but more of a lost in translation love affair.  After having a family of her own her love for visiting new countries did not stop there and that is why I can count myself very lucky to have travelled around many places whilst growing up.

My mother has always encouraged us to travel, making my first solo trip at the young age of 16. Then not long after, was my first visit to the magical land of Oz and NZ. As I fell in love with Australia, it was there and then that I knew that I had to come back and hopefully one day to make it my home and make my own 'shrimp on the barbie' whilst sipping Bundi rums. I guess there is no harm in dreaming...
This year I travelled for a year round Mexico, Cuba, Australasia and South America. Since the age of 15, I dreamt about visiting these places and in order to save up for my trip I worked for 5 years as a face painter during the weekends and all I can say is that it was totally worth it. Meeting those amazing  people, exploring those  breathtaking places and having all the freedom and independence in the world, is a wonderful feeling.

And so in September 2009, Dora finally set out on her journey and never regretted a single day of it ♥

Run Horsey Run

As some of you may already know, my fascination for Australia is a little extreme which is why I would allow myself to purchase one of those  " I ♥ OZ " t-shirts, instead of the usual NY ones...
On the first Tuesday of November each year, Australia suddenly freezes and prepares itself for the Melbourne Cup (the biggest event of Australia Race Horsing) but also for one of the most important fashion events of the year. It is a wonderful day for the women to dress up in classic 1950's and 60's looks, mixed with modern designs and of course an occasion to wear those fashionable fascinators. This occasion, the style of the season was all about fresh and vibrant dresses accessorized with fancy headwear designs.

I have never attended a horse race event myself, but if I had the opportunity to do so I most certainly would wear a simple but yet chic pencil skirt suit from the early 1950's. The outfit below may not be a vibrant outfit however its elegance is ideal for this type of occasion and highlights the female form ♥

Le belle bandeau

It was not until last year that I became a bit obsessed with bandos and now it  seems that I cannot go into a shop and leave without buying one. Along my travels, I have bought quite a few little decorative bands, mainly from Sportsgirl and Dotti in Australia and I did love strolling through the little markets in my beloved Mexico looking at the beautiful handmade headpieces. This way of accessorising has been around for many seasons, especially during the summer when we try to achieve that 'hippie festival look', with our long beach-style hair.  I still enjoy wearing these bandos, even though the crisp winter days are slowly starting to haunt us.

An accessories label which I have come across recently is Deepa Gurnani, which is a New-York based hair accessories designer label. Each headpiece is individually handcrafted with the finest materials, automatically making these little beauties way out of my price range. However there is no harm in looking and wishing...am I right?

Split Stone Headband £77.31

Pearl and Glass Leaf Headband £53

I have never been much of a winter girl to be honest, which I can either blame on my genes or the fact that I have never really stayed in the UK much when it comes to Christmas time as I always try and find a way to escape to somewhere with a little more sunshine. I suppose this is why my winter accessories department is rather empty. However I have started buying knitted headbands, which apart from keeping my ears warm and cosy, they certainly give your winter-outfit that extra touch of glamour ♥
